'Tis the Season?

Every year around this time, Spencer and I get into a debate of when to turn the Christmas music on. In my family, we liked to turn it on right after Halloween. Spencer thinks that is, "spitting in the face of Thanksgiving". I like Thanksgiving as much as the next guy, but it's just one day. There isn't much celebration or traditions besides eating the turkey dinner. I wait all year to pull out the Celine Dion Christmas CD and I need to give it as much time as possible. In fact, it is playing right now (spencer is at school). So Spencer and I usually compromise on the music. I listen to it in the car and at home when he is gone, and then I can listen to it openly after Thanksgiving. Is Spencer a Scrooge or am I really, "spitting on the face of Thanksgiving"?

Spencer is a scrooge just like his brother Daniel! They just don't have the Christmas spirit like they should!

I don't think it makes him a scrooge, it just means you're more excited about feeling the Christmas spirit...I accidentally caught myself singing Christmas music in September! Of course, getting excited about Christmas early means I always end up making people open presents early because I'm sick of waiting to see their reaction...

I agree with Spencer! What about the pilgrims?!....But really I'm ok with Christmas music as long as we do something festive with big buckles and lots of feathers in November.

We have pretty much the same arrangement-- I listen after Halloween when Sean's not home, and then publicly after Turkey Day. Whatever works. I think most guys just don't love Christmas music as much as we do! :)

Nope, there is absolutely no bad time to start listening to Christmas music. Ryan feels the same way but I sneak my listening in also. I'm on the same page as you Erin and Anne. Dixie, did you make your sons listen to Christmas music too early and now we are being punished? Just kidding. Rock on Erin!

The radio would agree with you - I turned on 106.9 tonight and they were already playing Christmas music! I like Christmas music as much as the next guy, but don't you get sick of it by Christmas? :)

I love the Celine Dion Christmas CD, by the way!

Wow...I mean Thanksgiving has feelings too. Listening to Christmas music before Thanksgiving just puts you in the same category of those material, retail punks--just trying to make a buck. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Bah Humbug, Spencer! You know you love the Toolson crazy Christmas'. Scott agrees with Spencer though, so I listen to it in my car with the boys, 106.9 all the way, baby!

More power to Christmas and the music that comes with it! I listened to Christmas music during both of my boys' births, though one was born Nov. 5, and then the other on June 20. AND I fully intend to listen to it when number three comes in April. But Celine Dion?? Try the oldies from the time life collection. I have a few if you want to borrow them. Oh, and why didn't you tell me you have a blog? Shouldn't that be like some kind of VT duty? Mine is shakespear-family.blogspot.com

I don't know. In my family, we didn't listen to Christmas music before Thanksgiving, but my parents always had their Christmas shopping done by Thanksgiving, so I don't know if we're much better. They said they did it so that they could enjoy the holiday, and get the best non-picked-over stuff.
